Refresh Brand Design Founder, Wilhelm (Wil) Derksen

 
 

Wilhelm (WIl) Derksen, Creative Director and Senior Designer of the Refresh Brand Design Team, is responsible for the amazing creative products that we deliver time and time again.

Will started his career in 1985 at Apple, Inc., at the Milpitas, CA facility. Not as a designer, but in what should have been his senior year in high school, Wil was driving an Apple truck. Delivering state-of-the-art Apple components intra-campus— from one building to the next, Wil's truckloads were part of becoming the very computers that were making such a big splash during the 1980's.

Then by chance, Wil's manager noticed a "doodle" he had been working on during his breaks. He had always been quite a talented illustrator. The sketch was a caricature of the very assembly line in his home building, #1. One day, his manager asked if "Marketing" could use the drawing to make an oversized button, for their use— Wil of course said yes. A few weeks later, every Apple employee received the full color, professionally made button, with a letter as part of a campus wide announcement and BBQ party. His reward? Without any expectations of compensation his manager and Apple surprised him by awarding him with a brand new Macintosh Plus computer (big stuff back then), an Apple Laser Writer NT, Aldus PageMaker 1.0 and approximately two dozen fonts. The rest was history.

After formally starting his graphic design career by opening Derksen & Bourett in 1987, Wil is celebrating his 20th year in the creative services industry. He has seen and done it all and knows every trick in the book. Best of all, is that Wil continues to innovate today, bringing as much creativity, originality and punch as ever before.

He understands everything from technology to retail, with an uncanny knowledge of "everything business and marketplace". Wil is analytical and practical, yet is much in-tune with relevant and forward styles and trends— his clients are always thrilled with his indelible and strategically sound ideas, and crisp and flawless execution.
